Gray skies and the threat of rain didn't keep people away from Gloria's 14th Annual Food Shelf Shortest Marathon. More than 350 neighbors came together to support the food shelf, proving once again that community spirit shines brightest on even the gloomiest days. From the moment “runners” arrived, the chatter was warm, the laughter was plentiful, and the community spirit was on full display.
Before the race began, participants gathered to enjoy White Castle sliders provided by Mueller Memorial, the team that truly puts the fun in funeral. Raising Cane's kept everyone refreshed with lemonade, while The Carlson Clinic helped participants relax with complimentary chair massages. Spirits were high as friends caught up, families connected, and neighbors prepared to take on the shortest marathon around.
This year brought several new traditions to enjoy. A commemorative photo backdrop became a popular stop, capturing smiles from families, friends, and multiple generations. Even a local water aerobics class joined the celebration. After crossing the finish line, participants gathered for coffee and donuts from Caribou Coffee, extending the morning's conversations and community connection.
Most importantly, the event raised $13,550, bringing the grand total raised through the Shortest Marathon to an incredible $154,000 in support of the White Bear Area Food Shelf.
